Introducing Our New Parent & Carer Lending Library! - Term 6

Every parent knows that children don’t come with a handbook. Whether you are navigating the first-day-of-school jitters, trying to figure out the best parenting strategies for a strong-willed child, or supporting a neurodivergent learner, we all need a little guidance sometimes.

To support our amazing community, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our Parent and Carer Lending Library!

We have curated a fantastic collection of books packed with practical advice, expert insights, and comforting reassurance to help you navigate the ups and downs of family life.

What’s in the Collection?

Our shelves are stocked with resources covering a wide range of topics, including:

  • Smooth Transitions: Tips for starting school, moving up a year, or changing routines.

  • Parenting Strategies: Positive discipline, building resilience, and fostering emotional well-being.

  • Neurodiversity & Inclusion: Helpful guides on ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and supporting diverse learning needs.

  • Managing Challenging Moments: De-escalating tantrums, handling anxiety, and navigating big feelings.

Where to Find It

The lending library is located right in the school office. Feel free to browse the shelves next time you drop off your child or visit the school.

How to Borrow (As Easy as 1-2-3!)

We know you're busy, so we’ve kept the borrowing process incredibly simple:

  1. Browse: Choose a book from the display in the foyer.

  2. Sign Out: Speak to a member of our friendly office staff, and they will sign the book out to you.

  3. Return: When you’re finished, simply bring it back to the office so another family can enjoy it.

Community Note: There are no strict due dates or late fees—just please look after the books so we can keep this resource running for everyone!

We hope you find these resources valuable. If there is ever a specific topic or book you’d like to see added to the collection, please let us know.

Happy reading!

Keeping Our Community Safe: A Meaningful Visit from Owen’s World - Term 6

At our school, we are deeply committed to not only providing a brilliant education but also equipping our children with the knowledge and awareness they need to navigate the wider world safely.

Recently, we welcomed the local charity Owen’s World into school to work with our Year 5 and Year 6 children. The charity was set up in memory of Owen Dunn, a young man from Swindon, with the vital mission of raising awareness about the dangers of knife crime and building a safer future for young people.

Empowering Our Children Through Education

Talking about these topics can feel daunting, but the team from Owen’s World delivered the session with incredible sensitivity, care, and age-appropriate openness.

The workshops focused heavily on making positive choices, understanding the real-world consequences of actions, and looking out for one another. Our Upper Key Stage 2 children engaged beautifully, listening with immense respect and asking thoughtful, mature questions. It was incredibly heartening to see how seriously they took the discussion.

A Lifesaving Gift for Our Community

In addition to sharing their powerful message, the foundation very generously donated an emergency bleed kit to our school.

While we all hope it is a resource that will never have to be used, having it on-site is a vital safety measure. The kit is designed to provide immediate, lifesaving medical support in the event of an emergency, not just for our school family, but for the wider local community.

About Owen's World: To date, the charity has reached over 6,000 students and placed dozens of bleed kits and knife surrender bins across our region. You can learn more about their incredible campaign, "Lives Not Knives," or find family resources by visiting The Owen's World Foundation Website.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the team at Owen’s World for spending time with our children and for their generous donation. We are incredibly proud of how our Year 5 and 6 pupils conducted themselves during this important visit, proving once again what responsible and caring citizens they are.

From "Underground" to Official: The Rise of Monday Morning - Term 5

For the past few months, a secret has been circulating in the corridors. Whispers of a school publication were true: an underground newspaper, written and distributed by a group of passionate pupils, was already seven editions deep.

While most of us were just waking up on a Monday, this team was busy reporting on the stories that mattered most to the student body - all behind the scenes.

The Secret is Out

Every secret eventually finds its way to the top. When the 7th edition landed on the library desk and was found by our Deputy Head - Mr Strange - the "underground" era came to a sudden halt. But it wasn't a reprimand that followed; it was an invitation.

Recognising the talent, wit and journalistic flair on every page, the Deputy Head brought the team together with a simple question: "Do you want to make this official?"

The answer was a unanimous yes.

Introducing: Monday Morning

With that, Monday Morning was officially born. What started as a passion project in a shared Google Drive has now become our school's premier student-led publication.

From hard-hitting news and interviews to opinion piecescrosswordscomics and fun stuff, the newspaper remains exactly as it was always meant to be: a platform for the pupils, by the pupils.

Get involved!

The "underground" team is always looking for new talent. Whether you're a budding reportercrossword wizard or a digital designer, there is a seat for you in the newsroom.

Monday Morning: Making news worth waking up for.

Victorian Adventures for Year 1! - Term 5

Sevington School 2025-26

Step aside, 2026 - Year 1 are officially Victorians! Our recent trip to Sevington Victorian School saw our students stepping back in time to master 19th-century chores and classroom etiquette.

It was a perfect way to bring Queen Victoria studies to life. A  huge well done to all of the children who represented the school with pride and showed outstanding respect throughout the day.

New Books Have Landed in Our LibraryTerm 5

2025-26 21.04.26 New Books

We're thrilled to share some exciting news: our school library shelves have been freshly stocked with a fantastic range of new books!

Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our Parents and Friends Association (PFA), funds raised from this year's book fair have been transformed into dozens of brilliant new titles for our children to enjoy. Even better, many of these books were chosen by the children themselves, who completed a 'Book Request Form' and posted them in the library. This helps to ensure that our new stock truly reflects their interests and passions as readers.

From gripping adventures and laugh-out-loud stories to cryptic mysteries and choose-your-own adventures, there's something to spark every reader's interest. There's already a real buzz around the library, with children eager to explore new arrivals, discover new authors and dive into their next favourite book.

A huge thank you to our wonderful PFA for making this possible. Your support continues to enrich the reading experiences of all our pupils and helps nurture a lifelong love of reading.

Happy reading, everyone!

The LibraryTerm 4

The Library

The Library

We've been busy giving our school library a fresh new feel and it's already making a big difference.

One of the most exciting additions is our brand new Book Request Station, where children can share their ideas for books they'd love to see on the shelves. It's a simple way to give pupils a voice - and they've certainly risen to the challenge already with some fantastic suggestions!

Alongside this, we've added lots of new books, carefully chosen to inspire, engage and reflect a wide range of interests. From page-turning adventures to thought-provoking stories, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

We're also shining a spotlight on reading through children's own book recommendations. These peer picks are helping to spark curiosity and encourage others to try something new because who better to recommend a great book than a great friend?

Finally, our new Reading Spine display proudly showcases the texts that shape our reading journey across the school. It celebrates the themes we have carefully woven throughout, the authors we treasure and the shared experiences that bring our reading community together.

It's safe to say that our library is buzzing with excitement!

World Book Day Display

For World Book Day this year, children across our school explored the picture book 'Chooch Helped' written by Andrea L. Rogers - a Caldecott Medal winning picture book. Using the story as our inspiration, pupils celebrated their love of reading by creating artwork, writing reflections and sharing their favourite books with one another. Above is a picture of our whole school display celebrating the wonderful responses from across the school.

Girls Football Tournament

Girls Football Tournament

A group of Year 5 girls represented our school at a five-a-side football festival. They played four games and had such a superb afternoon, showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout.

As the games went on, the girls grew in belief, confidence and strength as a team and this was a joy to see! We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.
