Governors
The Role of the Governing Body
The Governing Board is made up of representatives of the Staff, Parents and the Community as well as having some members appointed by the Local Education Authority (L.E.A.). Governors are volunteers who work alongside the school’s senior leadership team to set targets, formulate school policy and plan for future development.
The governors have various legal responsibilities and duties. They are responsible for the effective management of the school, for the school budget and for Health & Safety. They help to set, and monitor the school philosophy and policies. Governors do not make detailed day to day decisions about the running of the school, this is the role of the Head Teacher, supported by the staff.
Governors have three core responsibilities:
* setting the school’s strategic direction
* holding the head teacher to account for a school’s performance
* ensuring that the school’s budget is properly managed
